Free Access to Automatic System Identification with MiC – Modeling in the Cloud

MiC allows to identify free of charge a set of systems taken from various physical disciplines such as mechanics, electrics and others. Additionally, the Free Access to MiC provides downloading of identified systems as ready-to-use simulation models.

Bangalore, INDIA, [December 14, 2011]: How to identify physical parameters of dynamic systems? System identification methods known from simulation, feedback control design and system theory are applicable to determine physical parameters of dynamic systems. In most cases, these methods do not yield a good precision effort ratio. Easier, faster and more precise is MiC (Modeling in the Cloud), a web application from ExpertControl. MiC allows to identify free of charge a set of systems taken from various physical disciplines such as mechanics, electrics and others. Additionally, the Free Access to MiC provides downloading of identified systems as ready-to-use simulation models.

System identification (determining of physical equations including characteristic system parameters) is a fundamental part within mechatronic academics and a common challenge in development departments for electronics and controls of automotive, machine and plant manufacturers. A spring-mass-damper system (SMD) constitutes a good example to explain system identification with MiC. Measured data of an SMD system is used to determine a dynamic model including its physical component parameters automatically. Here, an external force F is the input signal and the mass position Y is the output signal. The resulting dynamic model is described in the following ways: transfer function, state space matrices, differential equation and differential equation with the physical parameters m, d, c. Each system, which will be identified by MiC, may be downloaded as ready-to-use simulation model for MATLAB / Simulink, LabVIEW and RecurDyn.

The Free Access to MiC provides identification of a set of linear and even nonlinear systems. The Premium Access to MiC goes one step further and provides identification for systems characterized by user specific measured data.
