Lanika Solutions announces release of APEX 2014 V1 from Breault Research Organization (BRO)

APEX 2014 V1; Now Operates Without Hardware Key and Now Has 30-day Free Trial Option in APEX

Bangalore, INDIA, [September 12, 2014] : AS RELEASED BY BREAULT RESEARCH ORGANIZATION, INC. — TUCSON, Ariz.–SEP. 11, 2014 — Breault Research Organization (BRO), the global provider of virtual prototyping software and optical engineering services, is pleased to announce the release of the APEX 2014 V1. Concurrent with the software release to customers, Breault is now offering a Free, Fully-Functional 30-Day Trial of APEX 2014 V1.

APEX 2014 V1 Release Highlights

No Hardware Key Required in APEX 2014 V1 – APEX 2014 V1 will no longer require a USB dongle to install and run the software. Instead, APEX will use Software Keys-only registration. There are several benefits to this change including an easier and more stable installation and usage environment as well as better administrative tools for managing all single-user and network licensed copies of APEX. Additionally, fully functional trial versions can be more easily distributed worldwide to existing and prospective customers. A free 30-day trial download is now available on the BRO website.

Contact Media in APEX 2014 V1 – APEX 2014 V1 can now quickly and easily trace rays for parts having coincident surfaces. Such surfaces are automatically detected from the SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD environment and optical properties are correctly assigned. This feature works for lenses, beamsplitters, and more complex optical assemblies for illumination or other applications where coincident surfaces may be prevalent in the design.

Analysis Templates in APEX 2014 V1– APEX 2014 V1 includes a new Analysis Template Manager allowing users to copy, save and re-use a suite of analyses performed on an assembly in a prior raytrace. Such templates can be applied to individual raytraces either before or after trace completion and can also be edited and automatically applied to other valid surfaces in the system. This new feature allows users to automate the performance analysis process making APEX even more powerful and easier to use.

Data Tables in APEX 2014 V1– APEX 2014 V1 now includes user-defined Data Tables allowing quick calculation of specific angular or positional point values from existing radiometric or photometric analyses. These data tables can be named and saved in the User Data Manager and then automatically applied to irradiance, illuminance or intensity analyses for any existing or future raytrace. This provides a convenient and timesaving method of quickly comparing trace results to regulations or requirements imposed on systems such as automotive lighting or general illumination.

Non-Orthogonal Detector Analysis in APEX 2014 V1 – APEX 2014 V1 can now automatically calculate irradiance on a surface in any orientation in the 3D CAD environment. This allows users to explore energy distributions on surfaces or detectors not aligned to the global coordinate system or on intermediate surfaces in optical components such as lightpipes.

Enhanced Chromaticity Analysis in APEX 2014 V1 – APEX 2014 V1 has additional chromaticity analysis available including CIE 1960 uv and 1976 u’v’ color appearance models and correlated color temperature (CCT). New CIE uniform color spaces have been added including 1976 La*b* and Lu*v* and the 1964 U*V*W* space for calculating color difference maps.

Simultaneous Editing of Emitting Sources in APEX 2014 V1 – APEX 2014 V1 now allows simultaneous editing of Emitting and Grid sources by selecting these sources in the Optics Manager. Users can edit power, the number of rays, or the default wavelength and can add spectrum information to make these source types polychromatic as well. In addition, multiple source distribution files can be selected and immediately added to Emitting Data source types. For example, this feature could be used to compare optical system performance for different LED’s using various manufacturer’s raysets.

Photometric Analysis as Optimization Goals in APEX 2014 V1 – General photometric quantities including luminance, illuminance and luminous intensity can now be used as optimization or parametric study goals in APEX 2014 V1. In addition, users can choose color parameters such as tristimulus or chromaticity coordinate or correlated color temperature as the specific photometric result for the end calculation.

These and other enhancements make APEX 2014 V1 a productivity-enhancing release with design features that advance the state-of-the-art in optical software.
